This essay describes the representation of gender and gender roles in Hiromi Goto's short story 'Tales from the Breast', in which a young mother, frustrated with breastfeeding, grafts her breasts onto her husband's body. This is backed up by research from various sociology sources dealing with gender roles and the experience some women have of not owning their own bodies.
