Racism and Religion: African American Life in the Art of Romare Bearden
In this paper we have shown the varying aspects of collage and painting work done within the artwork of Romare Bearden. By actively presenting the familial, racial, religious and painting techniques available in these works, Romare presents unified strategy to present the liberation of his people from slavery. Although he can be outdated in his rural presentations of black labor and family, his modernity in the collage technique helps bring about a new sense of African American life for the sixties era of the Civil Rights Movement.
