This paper examines in brief four of the major compromises that the Founding Fathers of the United States had to accept in order to create the Constitution of the United States. These compromises were made in debate at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 in Philadelphia. The four discussed in this paper are slavery, the protection of individual freedom, stability of the government, and representation in Congress.
