Palestrina and the Counter-Reformation.

This paper is written on the greatest composer of all times - Palestrina. Palestrina, thought by many to be the greatest composer of all time, was born in Palestrina in 1514 or 1515 according to Baini, Riemann, and others. According to Haberi, he died in February 2, 1594 in Rome, though his early history is virtually unknown. A manuscript in the Vatican relates that a young Palestrina sang in the streets of Rome while offering for sale the products of his parent's farm. On such occasion, he was heard by the choirmaster of Santa Maria Maggiore, who was impressed with the boy's beautiful voice. He pronounced his musical talent and educated him musically. He was a pupil of Mallapert and Firmin Lebel at St. Maria Maggiore, Rome, where he was a choirboy from at least 1544. In 1547, he married Lucrezia Gloria; they had three children.
