Art and the Artist's Role within Technological Developments: Possessed and Terminated
Within this paper, I begin by offering broad schemata that can be applied to the relationship between art and technology generally. I then differentiate technological art from technological kitsch, in order to justify qualifying Louise K. Wilson's "Possessed" as technological art. I then critically evaluate "Possessed" before critically evaluating "the Terminator" films; both critical examinations examine the relationship between art, the artist and technology. In the end, I suggest that only subjective beliefs in individuality can overcome the pessimistic notion that technology is ruling humanity.
