This paper discusses the series of 14 paintings by Jacob Lawrence included in his "War Series," paintings showing the emotional impact of war, as in two works discussed here, "Victory" and "Beachhead," both using similar methods and the same medium of egg tempera on board to create an emotional response to war, one showing victory as ironic and the other showing the frenzy of an attack.
