This paper encompasses a discussion of portraiture through the ages. The paper examines portraiture from ancient Egyptian times through the twenty-first century. The function of portraiture and how is has changed over time is investigated. Interpretations of portraiture are explained in a social, cultural, political and economical context and individualism is discussed.
