Cooperative Federalism: A Discussion of the Impact of the Economic and Political Crises of the 1930s upon the Shaping of the Canadian Constitution.
This paper will examine the chief product of this cooperation: the revision of the Canadian constitution in response to the problems the Great Depression presented for Canadian policymakers. It will be argued that this revision was successful only because of the political pressure created by the economic crisis of the Depression. As a review of contemporary documents will demonstrate, the remarkable feature of this revision is that it - to a large degree - embodies the constitutional reforms demanded by the left-wing CCF (Cooperative Commonwealth Federation) party. 12 pgs. 19 f/c. 9b.
