More Sophisticated than you think: Punk as subversion, mediated text, and paradigmatic symbol.
This paper is about the punk movement that first gained prominence in the UK in the latter-half of the 1970s. The movement railed against middle-class society and conventionality and gained much of its prominence from being a paradigmatic sign that stood in contrast to the stodgy existing order. The paper also explores how punk was and remains a mediated text and the fairness of its depiction in the media will be discussed.
