This paper compares Eduard Manet's painting, The Fifer, with a photograph of Louis Armstrong by Lisette Model. This paper looks at questions of agency, discursively, and semiotic in comparing and contrasting these two works of art. This paper also describes how these works of art represent music and illustrates the truths that are represented in each work.
