The Goal of Full Employment: Problems and Solutions
This paper examines the notion of full employment in economics, drawing on specific examples from the United States and Europe. The purpose is to provide some historical background to the concept, tracing the goal back to before World War II. The paper does point out that following World War II a shift occurred in economists conception of full employment, with current attempts made to equalize and moderate the effects of unemployment rather than outright doing away with it.
