Montessori, Educational Movement and the Process of Normalisation.

This essay will explore several key aspects of the Montessori Method. Her theory of movement as a key component of childhood learning will be explored with reference to the relationship of learning by doing with the process of Normalisation. This process, and its characteristic signs in children, will be described, as will Montessori's concept of "educational movement". Finally, her theory of sensitive periods will be discussed, with some discussion of its importance and the consequences if a sensitive period is unfulfilled. In general, it will be seen how the Montessori Method offers both educators and students the opportunity to maximize the potential of the teaching process for both parties. 6 pgs.
