Obstacles to Teaching Science in Elementary School: Challenges of Gender, Race and Differing Developmental Rates
This paper shall examine why the current educational program is perceived as not reaching the following groups: female students, minority students, and students with learning disabilities. These three (admittedly broad) categories consistently show poorer performance on standardized testing, report less satisfaction with their learning experience, and are still underrepresented in science in higher education and in the professional realm. How can these groups be better served?
