A Semiotic Analysis of Ancient and Modern Myths and Heroes in Film and Literature in the Theories of Roland Barthes
This paper will give a semiotic analysis of ancient and modern myths and heroes in film and literature through the theories of Roland Barthes. By showing how Barthes views indexing, discourse, and iconography in the works of Virgil, Homer, and the film, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon by John Ford, we can see how ancient and modern myths differ in their scope and perception in semiotics.
