Critical Renaissance: Shakespeare and the Patriarchy
This paper considers the role of the patriarchy in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Referring to the discussion of the patriarchy during the Renaissance by Stone (1977), this essay shows how Shakespeare portrays the dominance of men in society, but also how he manages to critique this authority in the play.
