This paper will examine that perspectives of death that occur within the novel War and Peace and The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy. By understanding death from the dying, as well as the spectators that witness death in his novels, we can get different reasons as to Tolstoy's use of the theme of death in novel form. By understanding death, we can surely understand Tolstoy's grim style of writing.
