Heroes in The Iliad of Homer: Diomedes, Achilleus and Hektor
The two principal heroes in the Iliad are Achilleus as the hero of the Achaians, and Hektor as the hero of the Trojans. However, these heroes both show some distinct deviations from the classic archetype of a hero. These deviations show up particularly well if we contrast their behaviors with that of Diomedes, who is another Achaian hero in the Iliad. These deviations are in fact so extreme that it can be argued that neither Achilleus nor Hektor truly fit the mold of hero, and this is particularly true of Achilleus.
