This four page undergraduate paper examines the key differences in political thought between the ancients and the moderns. It is evident that in the ancient world, widespread political alternatives were not readily available. The tyranny of kings and queens prevailed almost everywhere, from the Orient to the Mediterranean. Furthermore, the people of the ancient world had very little experience with any form of rule other than monarchy, and naturally mistrusted forms of rule they had no previous experience with.
