Psychotherapy and Sports Medicine: Two Applications of the Visualization Technique
This paper shall contrast the use of the Guided Visualization technique in two fields of patient care: its application in traditional psychotherapy, and its more recent use in sports medicine. While treatment in psychotherapy is focused on remedying a specific issue or set of issues, sports medicine is used to enhance the performance of an already healthy patient. The technique of visualization is rapidly falling out of favor among responsible psychotherapists, while the world of sports medicine is embracing it as an invaluable conditioning and training tool. This paper shall examine these two different applications and their outcomes.
