This paper comments on two articles, the first "Suburban Autonomy" by Michael N. Danielson on th way suburban regions separated from cities and developed their own controls and government in order to guide their own planning and keep their communities as they wished, and "Fortress Los Angeles" by Mike Davis, discussing the way Los Angeles is walling off space and separating the affluent from the poor.
