This paper discusses the causes and issues surrounding youth gangs, relying academic articles and books that address the reasons young people join gangs. The paper discusses the social context which cannot be separated from the phenomenon of youth gangs. The paper takes the stance that the only way to solve the problem is to first address the social issues that lead up to the problem.
