This paper shall describe two potential research study designs and provide definitions for three terms. The first study will be the likely impact of widespread gun ownership on crime rates. The second study will describe the relationship between criminal activities and child neglect. Neither will provide answers to these questions, but instead suggest how such a study might be done. Finally, marital happiness, friendship, and child abuse will all be conceptualized, operationally defined, and attached to a measurement scale.
