Every faith has a different view on the purpose of living. Eastern faiths such as Confucianism and Taoism say that the purpose of living is to act in such a way that harmony in the self and community is achieved. Western faiths behave in a manner that is designed to please God. All faiths seek some form of inner peace, but how each goes about doing that are different. It is the purpose of this paper to, in brief, discuss the basic precepts of Taoism, Confucianism, Judaism, and Christianity.
