This paper examines the interplay of religion and culture via the author's academic experiences with the historical development of dance forms from the West, Africa, and the New World. The author determined that the development of dance forms is not unlike the development of other cultural forms, in which various disparate cultural forces come together in conflict and create new forms as a result of the conflict.
